Sifu Fuson was born in South Bend, Indiana and has been involved in the martial arts since 1977. Sifu Fuson is the first person in Michiana to open a legitimate school teaching these rare arts. Now you can learn the same unique combative arts that he has taught to military personal, federal agents & law enforcement officers. Sifu Fuson also has the honor to be a member of the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
Sifu Russell Fuson is an instructor under JKD legend Guro/Sifu Larry Hartsell (Si Gung Bruce Lee's friend, student and long time instructor at the famed Inosanto Academy in California.) Sifu Fuson was one of the few privileged enough to be personally trained and tested from beginner to instructor levels by Sifu Larry Hartsell himself. Sifu Fuson was also selected as a representative for the Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do Grappling Association.
Having been trained in both classical and non classical methods of Karate & Kung Fu prior to entering the military, his time in the service had shown him certain weaknesses in his past training. At this period he learned the importance of finding something functional and effective for real world application. It was during these days Sifu began to look into as many arts as he could, and eventually became an instructor in both Kenpo Karate and Kempo Jui-Jitsu all while still cross training whenever possible.
After leaving the military, still prior to the UFC and the current popularity of the mixed martial arts, his studies on cross training continued. At this time he had already moved into the unique breed of JKD students and had become a known and respected as a second generation student of both Ed Parker and Bruce Lee. In the 1960's these 2 men heavily influenced the need to be progressive and to adapt to modern needs, 30 years before the current trend began to realize these benefits. Having already had this unique influence, Sifu Fuson had managed to study a number of other martial arts before going on to become an instructor in even more rare arts including Kalsadapo, Jun Fan Gung Fu and Jeet Kune Do.
Sifu Fuson has continued training and quietly teaching without publicity for a number of years. After seeing many current magazine articles and large associations putting out wrong information on the art of JKD, he decided now was the right time to come out of the shadows to promote the art to the general public.
He has returned to South Bend / Granger, Indiana to begin teaching the rare arts of Kalsadapo, JKD and the Filipino Martial Arts. His classes are now held at PeakFast, the only fitness center in Indiana to offer legitimate training in both of these very rare arts. As you can see, with his wealth of experience, we can all gain a stronger insight to add to the effectiveness of our art, as well as to our own personal growth.
